NCLE 1 Credit This course will present information on patient privacy (HIPAA). Included will be, who is affected, business associates, ways to comply, and updates from 2013. Due to the subject matter, it is important that each person in the optical environment understand the importance of complying with the rule. The Security Rule, Privacy Rule as well as breaches will be discussed. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
- Understand key requirements of patient privacy
- Explain the use of the term “business associate” as it applies to these regulations
- Describe how to implement a privacy policy and training
- Discuss the Privacy Rule and the Security Rule
