What is Hillsborough Community College

Hillsborough Community College is located in Hillsborough County of Tampa, Florida.  Chair of the opticianry program at Hillsborough CC, William Underwood, presented the NAO’s Ophthalmic Career Progression Program to their Board of Directors and the program was accepted for 14 credit hours.

How Many Credits Will You Receive

A total of 14 credit hours* will be awarded for successfully completing the entire Career Progression Program.

  • OCPP Course 101 – 1 Credit Hour
  • OCPP Course 102 – 3 Credit Hours
  • OCPP Course 103 – 3 Credit Hours
  • OCPP Course 104 – 3 Credit Hours
  • OCPP Course 105 – 2 Credit Hours
  • Certificate of OCPP Completion – 2 Credit Hours
  • Total – 14 Credit Hours

* – No college credit is awarded for students not completing all five courses of the National Academy of Opticianry Program of study

Course Requirements

Hillsborough Community College will award up to fourteen (14) articulated credits to a student who has completed all five courses of the National Academy of Opticianry Ophthalmic Career Progression Program so long as a student satisfies the following criteria:

  1. Enroll in the Opticianry Program seeing the Opticianry (AS.OPT) Degree;
  2. Request matriculation within five (5) years of completion date;
  3. Furnish official copy of transcript indicating National Academy of Opticianry Ophthalmic Career Progression Program completion
  4. Satisfactorily complete the secondary program with a letter grade of “B” (80%) or better in the program courses;

What is Different?

If you choose to complete the program for college credits you will need to full the following requirements:

  1. Complete all five courses of the Career Progression Program
  2. Complete the final exam and receive a certificate of completion
  3. Successful completion of all courses and the final exam is a “B” grade (80%)
  4. All exams must be completed online, booklet exams not accepted

If you choose to complete the program not for college credits you will need to full the following requirements:

  1. Complete only the first four courses of the Career Progression Program (course five is not required to complete the program)
  2. Complete the final exam and receive a certificate of completion
  3. Successful completion of all courses and the final exam is a “C” grade (70%)
  4. Exams can be completed online or in booklet format

There is no difference in costs to take the program for college credit from Hillsborough Community College
